Counselling in Cornwall. The therapeutic space I provide is a safe and confidential environment that facilitates self-exploration and allows the client to express themselves more fully, more openly and more deeply as the counselling process progresses. It is a process of personal discovery and insight.
As a person centred counsellor my role is to help you understand your emotions, thoughts and actions in a setting that is unique to everyday life. The theory underpinning my practice is based on the fact that people have an inner strength and wisdom that is often suppressed by the need to feel accepted and loved, or in harder times just to feel noticed. The suppression of this inner strength and wisdom can lead to an inaccurate self concept, when this self concept is challenged by life experiences it can cause a great deal of emotional distress.Applying the skills and knowledge through training, experience and ongoing supervision, I help find inner strength by offering key conditions that, although are often experienced individually to some extent in everyday life, are rarely experienced to such a level and all at the same time as in a counselling session. The key conditions I aim to provide are, unconditional positive regard, congruence, empathy, confidentiality. It is not my place to tell you what to do, how to think or feel, I am not here to give expert advice or diagnosis. I am here to listen and help you by feeling understood and respected in a confidential setting, to the extent that you can separate what comes from your own inner strength and wisdom, from that which you experience and live by as a price for acceptance and love. Once you have found it you can learn to trust it and use the strength to find acceptance and love from people without the price, and build a more accurate image of your true self.
